Varadero: We are still waiting for confirmation on the extent of the damage to hotels and beaches; reports from colleagues on the ground and our hotel partners is that damage has been severe in places, with some hotels closed. We’re continuing to assess hotels as the level of damage is different from property to property. Several hotels are open but not fully operational yet. Water and electricity supplies have been affected in some properties and communications/WiFi are sporadic.
Varadero airport has now reopened.
Havana: There are reports of serious flooding in some areas of Havana. A review of the status of each of our hotels in Havana is continuing. The Thomas Cook office has relocated to a nearby hotel, due to flood risk.
Current information is that Havana airport will reopen at some point today.
Holguin: There has been minimal damage to Holguin and as of Saturday 9th, customers were allowed out of their hotels. Holguin airport is open.
Cayos: According to Cuban media the Cayos were directly hit. We do not know the full extent of the damage. All customers were evacuated from the Cayos well before the storm hit to the town of Varadero.
