Seaweed affecting beaches in Mexico, Dominican Republic & the Caribbean

22 Jun 2018 | 14:41

Our in-resort teams have made us aware that some beaches in Mexico and the Caribbean are currently experiencing an increased level of seaweed. This is known as Sargassum and is a natural occurrence. The situation changes on a daily basis influenced by weather patterns and sea currents.

Hotels which are affected are working hard to clear the seaweed so you can continue to enjoy the beach during your holiday. This work continues during turtle nesting season (May-Oct ) however there are limitations on the use of specialist machinery to protect the turtles hatching.

We'll continue to monitor the situation.
